Identity Crises? Discover who you really are
When we start focusing on ourselves and how society defines us, we loose focus on reality, and God’s truth about us. In my own life, I tend to doubt my decisions, abilities and strengths when I focus on myself and how everybody around me defines me. There are so many verses in the Bible where God clearly communicates his tremendous love for us and shows us who we really are in him. This is what God says about us:You are perfect: (Gen. 1:27, Zeph. 3:17)
You were created in God’s perfect image. God does not see any flaws in us because he has already pronounced you and me as perfect when he finished creating us.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). We are fearfully and wonderfully made by Him (Psalm 139:14). He delights in us and rejoices over us with singing (Zephaniah 3:17). According to these scriptures God has put his stamp of approval on us. He sees us as valuable and wonderful works of his hands. He made us to share in his likeness solely and purely out of his love for us. Each of us is uniquely made by him who sees perfection when he looks at us. The only way to be happy, fulfilled and find your true identity is to see yourself the way God sees you. You are perfect in Gods eyes.
You are Valuable: (John 3: 16, Matthew 10:29-31)
You are so valuable he gave his only son Jesus Christ to die for your sins. The next time you look at yourself in a mirror and feel like you are worth nothing remember what Christ did on the cross for you. God loves and values you so much, he sacrificed his ONLY son, Jesus Christ, to be tortured and killed so that you will not perish but have everlasting life ( John 3: 16). Matthew 10:29-31 says “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows”. Believe what he says about you, of all that he created, he sees you as the most valuable.
You are a friend of God: (John 15:15)
We all tend to value our friendships with others, but sometimes out of these friendships comes unhealthy views of ourselves. Often times friends hurt and disappoint us when they criticize us, point out our flaws, gossip about us to others, or hold back information from us or tell lies about us. We lose our true self when we seek security and significance from our friendships here on earth. Jesus says in John 15:15 that we are his friends as long as we do what he commands. As women of God we are certainly friends of God. He is a faithful friend, he does not withhold any information about his father from us, he loves us unconditionally and he proclaims his love over and over in his word to us. He is ready and willing to forgive us when we apologize for our sins.He wipes the slate clean and does not hold our sins against us. He has the perfect advice for us in times of confusion and despair and he certainly has all answers to our problems. He is always there in good or bad times waiting to hold us and comfort us. Wow! I am sure you would agree, we cannot find such an amazing friendship here on earth. What a wonderful friend we have in Jesus.
You are Capable and Responsible: (Philippians4:10, Ephesians 2:10)
It is He who created us, and therefore he knows our strengths and our limitations, yet he sees us as so capable and responsible that he has entrusted us to take care of all his creations here on earth. Ephesians 2:10 says “He created us (women) to do good works that he has prepared for us to do in advance”. We must not doubt ourselves because God already believes in us, he has given us strengths, skills and abilities to do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us (Philippians4:10). Be assured that God will complete the good work he has began in you and has destined for you to accomplish.
Your are Gifted: (Romans 12:6-8)
By His grace, God gave you unique spiritual gifts, and it is only when we identify and use our gifts that we begin to feel whole and complete. It gives us a sense of satisfaction, completeness and accomplishment. Romans 12:6-8 list some of the spiritual gifts God has given us as women. Identify your gifts, and use them so that you can truly begin to see yourself the way God sees you.
You are Destined to be Successful: (Joshua 1:8, 1 Chronicles 22:13)
All our lives we have learned from school, our parents, the media and all other sources that our success in life depends on how hard we work. Although this may be true to some degree, God promises us in his word that his love for us is beyond measure, and that if we keep his word, meditate on it and do what it says then we will be successful in whatever we do. In Joshua 1:8 God says "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful". Just like the israelites, God wants us to be strong and courageous, and not be afraid. He says he will never leave us nor forsake us. He wants us to know that he made us to be successful in life. All we have to do is read his word, meditate on it and believe everything it says, then by his grace he will richly bless us. Our success does not depend on how hard we work or how smart we are, it totally depends on how much we depend on him. Read his word, meditate on it, act on it and believe in it.
You are a Child of God: John 1:12-13, Romans 8:36
We automatically become God's children and heir to his throne when we accept and believe in his son Jesus. "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God (John 1:12-13). Gods love for his children is so great that nothing can separate us from him. "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:36). As children of God, we are so priviledged to have such a loving father, and huge inheritance. We are so rich! We have nothing to worry about.

As Christian women, we have no business doubting our significance and wondering who we really are. We must be certain of who we are because God has made it clear to us in his word. Let us not let the world distract us from the truth about us.
